Therapists for college students near San Diego, CA
My name is Blanca Martinez Walter and I am a licensed Latina holistic and spiritual therapist, living in Denver, Colorado. I am licensed in both the state of California and Colorado. The fancy title I have earned is Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but I prefer the other title (spiritual therapist). I blend my experience working with Latinx in psychotherapy with my deep interest in spirituality and the mind, body, and soul connection. My therapeutic approach is holistic, incorporating intuition, signs that universe sends you, body awareness, inner child work, and a comprehensive understanding of your past and present experiences to understand how you came to be. In my practice I work with first generation latinas/latinos seeking change, wanting to get more attuned to their intuition, open to looking at past patterns and being challenged, all the while doing so with a therapist that has a cultural background similar to theirs. Common issues addressed in my practice include the effects of childhood parentification, perfectionism, self-care issues, life transitions, grief, relationship challenges, and other issues unique to the first-generation experience. As your therapist, I will be your cheerleader and I will also be that person that challenges you and disagrees with you, because without discomfort there is no growth. I balance both humor, gentleness and disagreement in my therapeutic sessions. And yes, I speak Spanglish. I offer a free 15 min consultation to determine what your needs are going to be, what you are looking for in treatment and with that determine whether we would be a good match. I can offer a special rate for college students of $90 for 45 minutes. *If you are dealing with suicidal thoughts, it may be determined that telehealth is not the option.
Are you seeking to regain control of your thoughts and emotions? Have you ever felt misunderstood, overlooked, or isolated? Witnessing the effects of racism, loss, abuse, and social injustices on individuals and families, I understand the long-lasting consequences of mental and emotional distress. Through my diverse life experiences in society, schools, work environments, social settings, and beyond, I have developed a unique insight and understanding of individuals and families. I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist who has a great passion for helping individuals, couples, and families manage their stress, depressive symptoms, and injustice they experience in our society. I provide a customized approach to my therapeutic interventions because I believe that one size does not fit all. I will work with you to develop a plan together and support you in reaching your goals. I offer a holistic, safe space with virtual appointments to accommodate your schedule. Supporting people on their healing journey and helping them live an enhanced life is my passion. This may involve setting healthy boundaries, processing and working through grief and debilitating feelings, or changing your irrational thoughts that negatively affect your behavior and experiences. I aim is to assist you on your journey of self-healing. I believe that we all deserve to live a joyous and fulfilled life. Many of the stressors in life can create a host of negative feelings, reactions, behaviors, and symptoms. In our society, there is great injustice that happens regularly and because of that many communities suffer in silence because they are not accepted. As a Black and Samoan woman, I have experienced first hand, the racial and gender hate crimes that used to cause me immense stress where I fell into a deep depression. Through my own therapy, I learned positive ways to manage my overwhelming thoughts and feelings while validating myself and my experiences. I no longer suffer from anxiety and my depressive symptoms are easier to handle, I also practice mindfulness everyday for overall wellbeing. We all belong and are all worthy. Healing is not linear, but it is possible! If you want to learn more about how I can be of assistance to you, feel free to send me a message.
Hi! Welcome to my small online practice, and congratulations on taking the step in looking into therapy - I know it can be challenging! My primary goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and comfortable space where you can be yourself and open up about things that you may be struggling with, or things that are causing you stress. Our sessions will not be a one-sided conversation, nor will they be mundane (trust me!), but rather there will be a lot of conversation and interaction, and together we can work on the things you want to change. I want you to find the peace and healing that you desire. My experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults with various diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, etc. I specialize in crisis intervention, grief, and play therapy. More importantly, I show up with authenticity and walk your journey with you. I will maintain a compassionate atmosphere where you will be heard and supported, while also challenging you when necessary so we can work together in creating a space for your personal growth and healing.

You’re insightful, self-aware, and driven—but the same old patterns keep taking over, no matter how much you try to change. Maybe you overanalyze relationships, struggle with a relentless inner critic, or overwork to outrun self-doubt. On the outside, you appear capable and accomplished, but beneath the surface you feel anxious, burned out, or stuck in patterns that haven’t shifted. You’re skilled at intellectualizing your problems, yet connecting with your body and deeper emotions feels harder. Part of you wants to be seen and understood, while another part holds back, unsure if it’s safe to express what you truly need. I specialize in working with young adults and creatives who want to move beyond insight and create deep, lasting change. Using Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, we’ll explore the protective “parts” within you so the patterns driving anxiety, burnout, and relational struggles can finally begin to shift. Healing at the root is possible. Together, we’ll work to break the cycles that keep you feeling stuck so you can move toward greater clarity, self-trust, and freedom in your life and relationships. If this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out to schedule a free consultation.

Monique Dozier, LCSW is a licensed therapist and founder of Journey to Genesis Mental Health Services. She has worked as a social worker for over a decade, and after years of supporting clients at various hospitals and nonprofits is redirecting her talent and experience to where her passion truly resides: her own community. She directly relates to the first-hand struggles of Black women, and especially Black mothers, face every day. As a mother to 2 vibrant, empowered girls, she also understands how necessary it is to build ourselves up higher than the world could ever tear us down. Monique created Journey to Genesis as a haven for the women tired of explaining themselves, the women tired of code-switching, and most importantly, the women tired of fighting to be heard.

If you’re a Gen Z or millennial woman who only realized you had OCD as an adult, you know what it’s like to feel stuck in your own mind. You might spend hours needing things to feel “just right,” second-guessing every choice, or checking and re-checking just to feel certain. You keep your thoughts to yourself because you know they don’t make sense but they still feel so real, and over time this can feel isolating and lonely. Decisions can start to feel impossible. Intrusive thoughts loop endlessly. The constant urge to get rid of doubt can be exhausting. If this sounds familiar, you’re not broken and you don’t have to face it alone. I support women questioning whether they have OCD or navigating a late diagnosis. Many feel trapped by intrusive thoughts, perfectionism, and the mental and emotional strain of trying to control every outcome. If you find yourself seeking reassurance just to feel a sense of relief, you’re in the right place. Therapy can be a space where you practice staying present even when your mind is loud. Together, we’ll work on sitting with discomfort, building safety in uncertainty, and developing tools that actually work for your life, not against it. My goal is to help you create more room for confidence and self-trust. I’m here and ready when you are. Reach out today.

I have been a therapist since 2004 working in both private and group practice with adults and children before joining with Kaiser Permanente psychiatry in 2012, recently returned to sole private practice in 2021. I earned my clinical social work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, which was awarded a top 5 ranking in the field. I additionally have completed post-graduate studies at University of Virginia Mary Ainsworth Clinic and American School of Clinical Psychology in Washington DC. While I enjoy use of various therapy methods, including CBT and ACT to treat anxiety and depression, I have a particular passion in the use of EMDR for trauma and stress disorders. I consider myself very privileged to have trained with and sought consultation with Andrew Leeds, who is an EMDRIA board member and foundational researcher in the field. .Many of my clients have reported this technique to be a fast and highly effective treatment that they wish they had considered sooner. Please feel free to look over the links regarding the high-effectiveness of EMDR and to reach me with any questions. Additionally, I have extensive expertise in the area of dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) another great therapy style that I can strongly recommend, I was very fortunate to be part of a 2012 Ben Hudnell Grant to develop a DBT program for Kaiser Permanente’s Psychiatry Department, initially at the Washington DC clinic and then later heading the program for KP Psychiatry in Pleasanton, CA; running these programs from 2015-2021. I find the coping skills taught in DBT to be essential, not only for reducing suffering and problem behaviors, but for helping to create a life worth living. While DBT was initially developed to assist those with Borderline Personality Disordered traits, it has broadened to include helping those looking to manage with mood swings, anger, relationship problems, binge eating, bipolar disorders, anxiety and depression, as well as assisting those is continuing recovery from addictions. I especially recommend DBT for those who struggle with anger or shutting down, as relationship dynamics are really where difficult can present. I teach both basic DBT and advanced practice, whether your new to process or experienced I am happy to support your process in session. There is the hope to include group education and process, in the future, pandemic needs permitting. I see my clients online via secure telehealth on Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays are available for in-person for those full-vaccinated and without COVID exposure concerns. You may schedule a free 20-minute telehealth consult via website below.
