Therapists for college students near Duke University
About Many of us go through life with low self-esteem believing that we're not enough, less than, or undeserving of any good thing. We wonder why good things don't happen for us, or why we can't have healthy relationships like others do. We feel guilt and shame for the things we've done (or not done) and we don't know how to believe in ourselves anymore. I am here to help you through these unhealthy beliefs and help you rediscover your true worth and purpose in this life. I believe in using a collaborative approach in helping my clients. I use evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and Motivational Therapy. I also use my Christian counseling experiences I am supportive, yet direct with empathy, compassion and help you address the barriers in their life that are causing you pain and distress. I started my education later in my adult life, and believed I had arrived late to the game. But I found that life experience paired with my own belief system, allowed me the opportunity to view life's challenges through a unique lens, and because of that I am non-judgmental and empathetic towards people who are struggling with the hurts life has dealt them.
Hello. I think the most important element of a successful client / therapist relationship is one of safety. A place where you can say and talk about things you may never have said before. I believe that because having experienced that myself is what lead me to this field as well. As a college student you are entering one of the most exciting and yet unfamiliar times of your life. There are so many opportunities yet with that comes potential obstacles. This is the time in your life where you truly begin to explore and define who you are. Your are faced with many choices that either bring you closer to your goal or move you away from it. Technology puts so much at our fingertips and sometimes that can be a obstacle in itself. Many of the very things that you enjoy about college life can become compulsive or even addictive. Think alcohol, drugs, pornography, and sex to name a few.

I work with clients who are grappling with anxiety, depression, and stress. Many are dealing with changes in their family, including substance use, codependency, and relationship issues. My clients are diverse but they all want to feel understood, heard, and validated. The most important part of therapy is the rapport between the clinician and the client, which is known as unconditional positive regard. The client needs to feel supported so that they can freely discuss the presenting problem. Throughout this process, I strive to be warm, empathetic, and knowledgeable; clients have previously described me as patient and open minded.

I'm passionate about helping my clients move from a life of fear to one of peace, feeling grounded, & trusting of yourself. You may feel lost, unsure of your next step, & grappling with anxiety. No one should have to navigate life's challenges alone- our hearts & brains were never wired for isolation. Everyone has a story that needs to be heard & I believe your life can be transformed from the insight you gain during your most challenging seasons. I believe our personal pains are often relational & I will come alongside you to reflect, offer insight & bear witness to your experiences as together we navigate your healing journey. My work is trauma & attachment-informed which means that I recognize the critical nature of our relationships, esp. those formed very early in life. Grounded in the present moment, we will explore cues from your body to help you express any emotions that may be stuck. Exploring what is happening in the here & now empowers your natural ability to heal. If this speaks to you, reach out and see if we are a good fit for each other. With a free first time phone consultation & the ability to do online sessions, I make therapy convenient & easy to fit into your busy life. Clients say they appreciate my compassion, authenticity, & warm sense of humor. It would be an honor to join you in this work.

It can be a challenge to find your center or balance when everything around you seems to be out of your control. Things are happening so fast and it can be scary. Searching for your true self in a world that adds filters to glamorize everyday life is a struggle. It can be difficult to find the balance between assertiveness, passiveness, honesty and consideration. Therapy is a space that is yours to discover answers to the questions that keep you up at night or cause you to overthink an "awkward" encounter with someone. Therapy is a safe and confidential space to explore who you are; to name, understand and better manage emotions. Take the opportunity to seek growth in your personal, professional, academic and/or romantic life. We can identify reasonable boundaries and coping strategies that support your mental and emotional well-being. You can let go of feeling misunderstood, underestimated, unseen or lost. Because you are worthy. So, let's find your light together. It is hard to trust a stranger to take this journey with you; therapists are special kind of people. Our job is to help others and provide a space that is nurturing to your needs. You deserve to take advantage of that. I invite you to call or send an email anytime. We can schedule a free consultation to help determine if I am the right fit for you.
Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next step? You’re not alone. I work with students who are navigating big transitions, juggling academic pressure, and trying to manage relationships, identity, and self-care all at once. Some come to me because they feel anxious, stuck, or easily overwhelmed. Others are working through past hurts, challenges with self-esteem, or patterns in friendships and dating that aren’t serving them. Our sessions are a space to slow down, sort through what’s on your mind, and find practical tools for coping, communicating, and building the life you want. I take a warm, collaborative approach — you bring your experiences, I bring strategies and perspective, and together we work toward change that feels realistic and sustainable. Whether you’re seeking a place to process feelings, learn new skills, or explore who you are, my goal is to make therapy a space where you feel understood, supported, and equipped to move forward.

Are you looking for a space where you can be yourself and feel truly heard? Whether you are navigating stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, or exploring your identity, you don’t have to go through it alone. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to better understand yourself, clarify what matters most, and take steps toward a life that feels meaningful- whatever that looks like for you. My approach is collaborative, authentic, and rooted in curiosity. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most powerful tools for growth. In my work, I am fully present, listen deeply, and create a space where you feel heard and supported. This is your journey, and my role is to provide a space that feels safe, validating, and empowering- where you can explore, heal, and grow at your own pace. Together, we’ll explore your values, build flexibility in the way that you relate to your thoughts and emotions, and develop coping skills that fit your life. Rather than focusing on “fixing” everything, we’ll work toward creating a life that feels authentic and aligned with what matters most to you- even when life feels difficult. While I am open to working with clients of all ages and backgrounds, I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults. Additionally, I am passionate about providing affirming care for people of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community, creating a space where every part of your identity is respected and celebrated. If you have taken this step toward seeking support, I hope you feel proud- I certainly am! Choosing a therapist is deeply personal, so if something I said here resonates with you, I would be honored to connect and learn more about your story.
I love working with college students to help identify barriers to reaching your goals. I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches to fit my client's specific needs and skill sets. I work with clients to build their resilience and identify gaps in their strengths so they can face each day and each challenge with confidence. We can look back at recent patterns you have been facing and look at a variety of factors that may be impacting you such as genetics, family of origin, interpersonal relationships, eating habits, school stress, thought processes, trauma history, emotion regulation, coping skills, pressure felt externally and socially, and more. My clients are motivated to make changes and I help them navigate the path to reach their goals.
I truly believe that everyone has the tools and potential to deal with and face their life challenges, adversities, conflicts, and pain. I am a passionate listener to your story. Together, we will find your own ability to live a better life with yourself and with others.
