CHERIISH Counseling LLC is a mental health counseling program located in Gresham and Troutdale, Oregon. We provide traditional therapy services in-person or virtually. We also offer equine-assisted therapy. Our practice focuses on serving LGBTQIA+ clients. We are here to help you discover yourself, access your self-compassion, develop healthy relationships, and build skills for a more peaceful and grounded life.
Our lived experiences shape the world around us and how we interact with it. Therefore, I believe understanding someone’s story is instrumental in any therapeutic process. Therapy is meant to help someone heal, build skills, break out of patterns, and gain further insights into oneself. It’s an investment in yourself so that you can have a future not burdened in anguish. As someone who identifies as multiracial, I have firsthand knowledge about the intersectionality of race and culture. I honor each person in front of me and foster a space that is safe where healing can take place. I use a strengths-based approach and pull from different evidence-based modalities such as DBT, CBT, and CPS. Treatment is individualized for the person, not to fit in a box. I have several years working as a clinician within a variety of health care settings with the most recent being with adolescents and adults in acute care settings. In addition, I have experience working with first responders and healthcare professionals.
Welcome to NW Intrinsic Psychotherapy! Our goal is to provide evidence-based individual therapy services in a safe, collaborative environment. We aim to help you explore your sense of self, values, and goals and to help you identify and address barriers achieving your goals and promoting quality of life. We currently have 5-providers who serve 3-states. We provide therapeutic services to couples and individuals. We also have a provider who is fluent in both English and Vietnamese and is available in Washington and Idaho via telehealth. Our Approach We believe that, while you cannot always control the world around you, you have a choice in how you respond to that world. We are licensed clinical psychologists who have been trained in several different therapy modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and humanistic approaches. Further, we strive to maintain knowledge of various cultures and diversity considerations and an awareness of the impact culture and diversity can have on daily experiences to best support you. We provide collaborative treatment planning and focus our sessions on what is most important to you. Our sessions offer a balanced mix of emotional processing and skill work that you can apply to your everyday life. We use a range of techniques to help you explore your values, goals, and healthy ways to address barriers in your life so you can continue your journey long after therapy has been completed.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist dedicated to improving my patients' well-being through personalized treatment plans. I completed both medical school and residency training at Oregon Health & Science University. When meeting with my patients, I adopt a holistic approach, considering the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence their mental health. My strategy integrates therapy and medications, as needed, to address issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relational challenges. My goal is to help you better understand your experiences and develop lifelong skills to achieve your personal goals long after our collaboration ends. Initially, I follow a consultative model where I spend 2 to 3 visits getting to know you. Then, through collaboration, we develop an appointment schedule that works to meet your needs. I am a mental health therapist located in SW Portland. I am LGBTQI+ affirming and work with a wide array of clients from various backgrounds. I am an advocate for my clients and do not take that role lightly. Many of the people I work with have been through extensive trauma. I am trained in somatic therapy and help clients learn to access the wisdom of their bodies to help them ground and live more fully in the present moment by developing mindfulness skills. In our work together, I hope to help empower you to build a curious and understanding relationship with the distressed, normal, and brilliant parts of you that have been managing your suffering within the context of relationship challenges, family of origin difficulties, systemic injustice, and isms. Equally as important, I hope to support you in connecting with and caring for your younger self that might still be holding the burdens of past trauma. I deeply value working to offer folks a new relationship in therapy. One where collaborative planning with your nervous system will help to support us in centering a reparative experience. Online and in-person therapy for making beautiful things happen in hard times. So, what might make me a helpful person to hear your story? First, I love building relationships. I’ve worked with teens and young adults in so many places over the last 16 years: backpacking trips, schools, therapy offices, beaches, camps. Specifically, I’ve worked mostly with adolescents and young adults who were also: immigrants, refugees, dreamers, queer, trans, non-binary, BIPOC, LGBTQ+. We can talk about who you’re becoming, relationships, dreams, and the hard stuff that keeps you up at night. I’m here because I genuinely like what I do and I’m excited to meet you. Second, I take the time to get to know more about your world and our world. I’m a queer person with a disability, and I’ve had to learn the power of believing in my own value, even when other people don’t see it. Maybe you have a similar experience. It helps to learn about how the world around us affects us so we can work to let go of things that aren’t our fault and change what we can. Third, I never stop training to be a more helpful therapist. One of my favorite methods is called Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It has some similarities to EMDR, but does not involve talking about trauma in great detail, unless of course that feels helpful! It often provides great relief!
