I am a mental health counselor with experience working with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, and marital counseling. My greatest passion and experience is with working with those experiencing grief. While I see clients of many different faith traditions and none, I am trained in Christian integration for those that wish to discuss their faith in relation to their current or past struggles.

I specialize in working with college students, young adults, individuals, and couples navigating trauma, academic stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, substance use, and life transitions. I have experience providing services in College Counseling and Psychological Services settings, where I’ve supported students through personal, relational, and academic challenges. My approach is trauma-informed and integrative. I use EMDR along with other evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), to support holistic healing and emotional well-being. I strive to create a compassionate, collaborative space where clients can process their experiences, build resilience, and move toward meaningful change.

I work best with students who are struggling to get things done in systems that weren’t built for their minds. You may be neurodivergent, dealing with burnout or procrastination, or feeling stuck despite caring deeply about your work. I also love helping students form their own identity, especially those who feel culturally different or come from diverse backgrounds. Many of the students I work with are carrying stress or past experiences that still show up in the present, and we make space for that at a pace that feels safe. Our work is practical and supportive, with room for both skill-building and the heavier stuff you don’t always get to talk about.

Healing and Growth Counseling, PLLC (Kate Tower, LCSW)
Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Clarksville, TN

Hello! My name is Kate, and I've been a therapist for 15 years, and a virtual therapist for 3 years. I have a Masters in Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I love working with people of all ages, and enjoy addressing a diverse array of issues that impair us from being our best selves. In addition to myself, I work with 4 co-therapists; 3 dogs and a cat! They occassionally make brief appearances during sessions to provide their insight. I generally approach therapy as an equal meeting of you, as the expert on yourself, and me, as someone who can give some qualified insight and ask good questions to guide you to your own answers. I tend to be warm and engaging, and I pull the most from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), although I also use certain tools from other modalities, as well. In our sessions, we will work together to target the areas in which you would like to grow, give you the tools you need in order to produce the desired growth, and tackle sticking points and struggles as you work on applying what we discuss in therapy. I generally will give "homework" between sessions to help you continue to think about and apply what we are working on in your daily life, but it's nothing intense, I promise! Most clients find the "homework" really helpful and even fun, sometimes.

I work with people from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences, and I get how overwhelming college life can feel. If you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship stress, or just feeling stuck, I’m here to help you untangle what’s going on and make sense of your emotions. I also speak Spanish and understand what it’s like to navigate life in a new country or culture. My goal is to create a space where you can be honest, feel supported, and start building the life you want—one step at a time.

A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.

In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am also a Registered Art Therapist. Trained under the broader umbrella of Expressive Arts Therapy, I believe in the power of creativity, play, exploration, and expression which offers healing, not solely through traditional talk therapy, but through other expressive means – dance, movement, poetry, painting, improv, and more. I am trained in EMDR, and I value the use of somatic (body) work to facilitate release of embedded trauma. Sometimes, even when we understand logically that we are free from danger, our body still holds a primal fear response. I am dedicated to creating a therapeutic safe space for anyone who wants to embark on a healing journey. To this end, I lean into a strength-based, client-centered, trauma-informed philosophy. Conversations, artmaking, and guided experientials are always presented as invitations as I practice active listening and an open and curious mindset towards what the client wants to explore, create, and share. In my non-profit job, I work as a sexual health educator, HIV tester, counselor, and advocate. I practice a curious, non-judgmental approach and do not shrink away from “taboo” topics. I engage with a wide spectrum of individuals and commit myself to justice and equality for everyone, paying special attention to those in marginalized groups. I offer a safe space for LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, people with disabilities, and those who may see the world through a different lens.

Knoxville, TN

My name is Teresa Arnold, and Mind Matters Behavioral Health is where I pour my passion into providing personalized care. As a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I draw on many years of experience to walk alongside people through life's challenges. My background in critical care nursing has equipped me to handle even the most complex cases with skill and compassion. Yet my deepest calling comes from my work with vulnerable populations overlooked by the system for far too long. I simply could not turn away. From that moment on, I knew my purpose was to truly see each person in their wholeness, not just treat isolated symptoms. My goal is not merely to prolong life, but to fill each day with meaning, hope and healing. At Mind Matters, we will work hand in hand, heart to heart, to create a treatment plan unique to your needs. Your mind matters. And together, we will find the path to healing.
