I work with students who are navigating relationships with mentors, friends, and romantic partners, and grappling with questions of identity and career. I also see students struggling with serious mental health issues such as depression, anxiety/panic, and trauma. I was trained at Veterans' Affairs medical centers in treating PTSD, and my graduate training focused on issues of religion and identity.
I work with motivated adults (ages 21 and up) struggling with issues including anxiety, depression, sleep troubles, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss. I specialize in working with adults who experienced childhood neglect or trauma. Our area of focus is ADHD, depression, anxiety (including social anxiety), OCD, insomnia, and addictions. Dr. Nissen has served as Chief of Student Mental Health and trained in psychiatry at Harvard Medical school. We collaborate with colleges and families to provide patients with academic plans, accommodations, and disability letters when indicated. Most prefer to meet with us virtually, but we offer in-person house calls as well.
