Our weight-obsessed culture chastises and shames you, as though your body size is not only a personal moral failing, but a reliable indicator of poor health. Over time, you started internalizing this anti-fat bias, and often treat yourself with the same level of contempt. You either avoid seeking medical care altogether, or expose yourself to the risk of weight stigma (far more harmful than any presumed adverse effect of your weight itself). You forgot how to nourish yourself – sometimes forbidding yourself food, sometimes isolating in shame for a binge, sometimes "paying" via purge. But friend, you are meant to bloom - not shrink. I know this may be difficult to believe right now, but you are already lovely, wise, and worthy of much more in life. I’ll hold that thought for you as you relearn it, and we use it as the foundation of our work. From there, we’ll integrate cognitive behavioral strategies with EMDR to gain insights from the present to heal your old wounds once and for all. You deserve to fully enjoy, nourish, and be at peace with your body. Learn to better understand your thoughts and emotions, and stop wasting energy on what others think. Explore the root causes of the shame you've been taught, and work to move past it – your deepest self longs to be known. Call me now for your free consultation, and let’s get started today!

I believe mental health is the foundation of an individual's over-all health. I focus on an integrative treatment approach with an emphasis on making life changes in addition to treatment with medication. I work with my clients to develop an understanding of their own unique stressors and pressure of everyday life/college life in order to create a well-rounded treatment plan. I feel effective psychiatry not only requires personalized care but also developing a long-lasting, trusting, and respectful relationship. I treat a wide range of mental health conditions and specialize in AnxietyAnxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. To persevere is to have the persistence to achieve success despite obstacles and challenges- I strive to work with my patients to have them face these obstacles head on. Telepsychiatry available.

Hi, I’m Ben Borkan, and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Gestalt Therapist. I primarily work with couples using Crucible® Therapy and Gestalt Therapy. However, I occasionally see individuals who are looking to work on their own relationships. I did not initially start out seeing couples. I began my career in wilderness therapy, where I guided groups of young adults and saw the impact of social relationships on individuals’ development, both from family systems and also in the healing work that can be accomplished in a group setting. My work in wilderness therapy inspired me to pursue clinical social work at Smith College School for Social Work where I received my MSW. In the past decade I have worked in a variety of settings, practicing various modalities with individuals, couples, families and groups. Therapy combines both my passion for learning and my desire to help others grow. Gestalt and Crucible Therapy are two approaches I find most empowering both personally and professionally. While different, each approach is strengths-based and takes a holistic and real view of people, and how relationships and marriage work. They are also backed with research and evidence that supports their effectiveness in helping people with their relationships. I received my Certificate in Gestalt Therapy at Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in Golden, CO where I learned how to work with people, including myself, to rewire obstacles to authenticity and intimacy. More recently, I began training in Crucible® Therapy; an approach that incorporates neuroscience to help people move past projections, behaviors, and thoughts that inhibit intimacy. I take pride in the work I do and do “the work” from these approaches in my personal life. I want to share what I have learned to help people experience similar sustained and meaningful change in their relationships.

PVD Psychological Associates (PVD Psych) is a private psychology practice on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. Our mission is to provide the greater Rhode Island area with exceptional therapy, offering cutting edge and research-supported treatment by a team of highly trained therapists. We offer therapy for adults, college students, and adolescents struggling with anxiety, school/career concerns, eating disorders, infertility and women's health issues, and relationship difficulties. PVD Psych is a LGBTQIA-affirmative practice, and is one of few Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island LGBTQ Safe Zone certified providers. We strongly believe that everyone has the right to respectful and affirming, high quality care. My areas of specialization and interest include: women's issues, depression, anxiety, stress management, and working with LGBTQIA-identified individuals and family members. I practice primarily from a relational-dynamic perspective, though I also incorporate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and narrative approaches to address and tailor treatment to the unique and individual needs of each client. In my work as a therapist, I focus on understanding early experiences and how psychological well-being can be fostered through relationships. I believe change and healing come through relationships: our relationships with ourselves, as well as our relationships with others. I view therapy as a collaborative process that allows both therapist and client to grow and change. My clients describe me as an empathetic, active listener who approaches their concerns with caring, respect, pragmatism, and sometimes, humor. I'm honored that you're considering working with me and I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Please feel free to contact me.

My experience on the other side of the 'couch' has shown me that real change is possible when you make your mental health a priority. It takes courage to ask for support, and you don't have to face life's challenges alone. Therapy provides a safe, supportive space for you to share and process what you’ve been carrying. In our sessions, I’ll use strengths-based approaches, insight-building techniques, and various therapeutic modalities to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and achieve your personal goals. My approach to therapy is both conversational and practical (somewhere in the middle of talking to a friend while also getting concrete techniques and insights). I strive to create a safe environment where your story is valued, and you are treated as the expert of your own lived experiences. I specialize in supporting individuals who have a sense of overwhelm, ruminating thoughts, burnout, lack of motivation, disconnected, feeling hopeless and detached, and life transitions. What You Can Expect: - Problem Solving: We'll focus on addressing the issues causing you the most stress right now. - New Understanding: You'll gain clarity on your symptoms, triggers, and responses, making them less intimidating and more manageable. - Tools and Strategies: You'll learn evidence-based techniques to manage overwhelming thoughts and emotions. - Confidence: You'll recognize your strength in handling anxiety, guilt, and sadness, empowering you to take control. Let's take this step toward self-care—I'm here to help.
