Clinical Social Work/Therapist
The Bronx, NY

I was called to this work at a young age after seeing that many people in my neighborhood in the Bronx and in my parents’ home country had no access to mental health care. I wanted to be able to provide mental health support to people from all walks of life. I received my bachelor's of science in psychology from Fordham University, where I subsequently completed my Master of Social Work degree. Following graduation, I became a family therapist, helping parents and youth work on complex family issues and conflict resolution. I worked in a variety of settings, including psychiatric residences, homeless outreach, New York City’s Administration for Children's Services, and a group psychotherapy practice in the Financial District. I currently provide individual psychotherapy as a private practitioner in addition to working at Montefiore Medical Center as a senior mental health specialist. I strive to create a welcoming environment from the very first session. I believe in forming a strong alliance with my clients to create a comfortable space to open up about personal struggles. Collaboration, humor, and validation are key components to my work. I guide people in learning skills that are applicable to everyday life. I was raised in a very racially, ethnically, and religiously diverse environment. Support of marginalized people is a core part of my worldview and translates into my practice. I enjoy working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities and helping them navigate the modern world.

I am a bilingual psychotherapist fluent in English and in Tagalog, fostering a trusting and collaborative therapeutic environment where you feel acknowledged and understood. Through this partnership, clients explore their needs, process experiences, acquire coping skills, and cultivate a perspective that promotes authentic self-connection and meaningful engagement with the world. I bring extensive experience from working with diverse individuals and groups, addressing mental health issues such as psychosis, trauma, anxiety, and depression in an inpatient setting. Specializing in grief counseling, I assist people coping with various losses, including relationships, careers, pets, cultures, or hobbies. Drawing from her background as a competitive athlete, I also support athletes with the loss of opportunities, identity, physical abilities, or general sports psychology. Also as a proud Filipina-American, I recognize the difficulty in discussing emotions and mental health within Asian-American communities due to stigma. I advocate for therapy as a safe space to address emotional struggles, and to also express all types of emotions, including positive one’s such as your strengths and achievements. Regardless of one’s identity within the Asian American Pacific Islander Community, I offer support for various challenges including acculturation, family loss, relationship issues, anxiety, depression and identity struggles. I understand there is no one-size-fits-all approach; I will personalize the treatment based on your unique needs and situation. I am here to provide a safe and comfortable place for you to be your real, authentic self, to share a great laugh, cry, or any other emotions free of judgment.

I specialize in working with people who are experiencing life transitions, such as marriage, divorce, parenting, career, loss of a loved one, aging, and existential anxiety. Transitions can be stressful because it means you need to make changes in how you are living your life. I work with people who are at a crossroads of important decisions or who are having difficulties navigating and adjusting to a change in life circumstances. Going in a direction you have not gone before can bring up feelings of fear, doubt, and uncertainty. If you are trying to figure out what you want from your life, I will provide a safe and nonjudgmental place where we can explore your emotions, challenges, choices and possible consequences, and best approaches to move forward. Going through the process of taking stock of your life can often lead you to a new beginning which opens up new possibilities. With every life transition, we need to let go of a past way of thinking or being and replace it with something new. Together we can create a path towards change and healing.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor E. Frankl One of the greatest gifts we can grant ourselves is the gift of inner peace. While we may not have control over our environment, situations, or the actions of others, we do have the power to control our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. As a therapist-in-training, I am dedicated to helping clients identify and understand the connections between their thoughts, beliefs, actions, and the decisions that shape their daily experiences. My goal is to help you turn life's lemons into lemonade. We all encounter challenging experiences, and I understand the importance of having a robust support system, combined with the right resources, time, and commitment. My aim is to ensure you feel safe, understood, validated, empowered, and supported throughout our sessions. Together, we will explore various therapeutic interventions to identify the best fit for your individual situation. I am currently a second-year graduate student at UMGC/Salisbury-Global Campus, pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work. My experience includes working with wounded warriors and NATO allies stationed overseas, addressing issues such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, substance abuse, separation anxiety, and identity struggles. Are you highly attuned to others, having been told you're "too sensitive"? Do you struggle with setting boundaries, people-pleasing or burning out from perfectionism and a constantly full calendar? It can be exhausting to balance the weight of being highly sensitive while also meeting the standards set by us, our families, and communities. These behaviors are often connected to earlier relationships, such as family dynamics that can shape how we interact with others later in life. Therapy is a space to help you explore how past relationships shape your present, empowering you to respond to stress in ways that honor your needs. I'm an LCSW with 7+ years of experience working with members of the queer community, neurodiverse individuals, and those managing chronic mental health and medical conditions. I’ve spent my career supporting individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and complex family dynamics. We'll collaborate together to identify and work towards goals that will help you take ownership over your life and build the reality you want to see. Whether it's setting boundaries with parents, letting go of perfectionism, or beginning a challenging career endeavor- I’m here to listen and support you with warmth, curiosity, silliness, and honesty. I'm a queer, Jewish therapist who has experience working with queer Jewish community ranging from those who identify as secular to Orthodox. Navigating queerness from a religious framework has its own unique challenges. Regardless of your background, we'll work together to explore your identity and how that interacts with the world around you.
