I am a clinical psychologist who provides evidence-based, solution-focused treatment in a warm, supportive environment. In my experience most people appreciate a compassionate yet direct approach from their therapist. I work with you to identify and change unhealthy thoughts and behaviors while providing ongoing clear feedback and guidance in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner. As you grow, you strive for more out of life, yet may be unsure how to get to where you may wish to be. I will support you on your journey as we explore together your needs, long-term and short-term perceived goals, and best practices for fulfilling them. I use the therapeutic process to empower my clients so that you come to realize and acknowledge the wealth of resources you have both within and without, building on strengths and gaining confidence to accept the past and create your personal story. I provide individual and group therapy to children, teens, adults, and seniors, with extensive experience working with issues related to anxiety, trauma, depression, life transitions, midlife, parenting, school, caregiver stress, creatively aging, and the second half of life. According to Carl Jung, individuation is the process of self-realization through discovering meaning and purpose in one's life. I provide a safe space for exploration and honoring all aspects of the self-the good, the challenging, that which may be difficult to look at, and everything in between. I use methods such as verbal and non-verbal techniques, art therapy, dreamwork, and imagery as entryways to viewing the unconscious and symbolic content and how these present themselves in conscious life. I am open to the needs of each individual client and invite you to lead me as your guide on your path of growth and evolvement. I hold a Master's degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Long Island University and certificates in Jungian oriented psychotherapy from the CG Jung Institute of San Francisco, which informs my integrative approach to therapy and supports my commitment to creative and holistic healing.

Are you looking for a supportive, safe space to process and share your concerns related to you or your child? Have you or your child tried to push through depression, codependency, low self-esteem, anxiety, or weak interpersonal relationships for a long time? Surrender your old story and prepare to embrace a new one. I know the feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and being misunderstood and I know the value of having had a support system of those who believe in me when life gets hard. Fortunately, there is a way to change patterns by learning to think and feel differently. Through multiple techniques, I aspire to help change the way you may think and feel about yourself and the world, by identifying unhealthy thinking and helping you challenge them. Together we will work on shifting your mindset and making progress towards your personalized goals. MY BACKGROUND In addition to receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at CUNY Queens College and Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at LIU Post, I am a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). I am fluent in Spanish and English. I am excited to use my knowledge and skills to help children, teens, and adults who might be more comfortable with therapy in Spanish, through individual/group settings. While earning my Master’s degree, my interest in mental health and the counseling field grew. I couldn’t wait till the day that I would finally be able to do what I’ve wanted to do since I was a child. Upon graduating, I was an intern for a pediatric clinical psychologist. Being able to see the work and gaining some hands-on experience opened new doors for me and showed me an additional side of helping people. From there, I moved on to a clinic that specializes in treating those who suffer from addiction/substance use disorder which gave me the opportunity to use my counseling skills differently. I was able to meet each person as soon as they began their recovery journey, as I conducted their initial assessments and guided them in their recovery journey by helping them meet their individualized goals through individual and group sessions. The experience of being in the counseling field has been one of a kind, especially as a health care worker through the COVID-19 pandemic. All things are possible due to my strong commitment and interest in helping the community. MY APPROACH My goal is to empower my clients, as I wholeheartedly believe in the ability to change while learning to be gentle with oneself. Please allow me the opportunity to join you and your family on this journey to overcome obstacles and embrace accomplishments. An inner sense of peace may feel far from reach for you or your child, but I promise it’s available to your family. Are you ready? You’ve made it this far, now just reach out! If you would like to contact me or make an appointment, please email me at stephanie@trianglecognitivetherapy.com or call me at 516-208-3792 ext 29.

Due to the coronavirus, my practice is telehealth only. Connecting with a laptop , ipad or phone is easy. I work best with persistent persons wanting a better quality of life. Because it can be difficult to seek help, I provide psychoeducation about therapy to clients and am forthright and supportive. So if you are feeling anxious or sad, have worries, or are worried about social, attention or homework skills, I am able to help. Clients who are motivated to do better and want relief from school, social and family stresses can benefit from my approach to therapy. It is important to remember that each person is an individual who has his or her individual concerns. My approach is focused, following a cognitive-behavioral orientation. I work with a wide range of and have an understanding of the unique culture of colleges and universities. Individuals seen in my practice are generally anxious, stressed, panicky and dealing with life circumstances. I enhance skills through university teaching and professional writing. Treatment emphasizes coping and problem solving skills, which are tools used when formal therapy has ended. One should acquire the ability to see alternatives so problems become less overwhelming and more manageable. As someone who is teaching college students online, I have an understanding of the pressures and stresses that come with the logistics of navigating online instruction. The college students seen in my practice report anxieties related to multiple personal/social, academic and work demands as well as the changes in daily life due to the coronavirus

Are your emotions getting the best of you — influencing behaviors that impact your relationships, career, or sense of self? Are worry thoughts or mood shifts becoming harder to manage? Building a life is difficult when strong emotions sweep you away. They can pull you from your values, your goals, and even your identity. Emotion regulation isn’t about getting rid of feelings — it’s about learning how to ride the wave without letting it carry you off course. I’m a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician — the gold standard for DBT providers. I specialize in emotion dysregulation and use evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. I offer adherent DBT individual therapy and DBT skills training in both a group and 1:1 format. Navigating the decision to pursue therapy, whether for yourself or a loved one, is a step in the right direction. If you’re ready, reach out to schedule a free initial 15-minute consultation. On our call, we’ll discuss goals and what our work together could look like.

My practice is geared toward teens and young adults. I provide professional cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) along with Gestalt therapy. Only during exceptional circumstances would medication management be offered. I always counsel low medication doses and follow up with patients frequently because I like to err on the side of caution. I believe in the value of a genuine understanding of mental health, a confidential place to self-explore, and a healthy patient-provider relationship that is trustworthy, cooperative, and supportive.

At In Pursuit Of Progress Therapy, we envision the therapeutic process as: the unfolding of one’s story in connection with an entrusted professional; often with the desire to come to know oneself on a deeper level and/or to empower a person to make vital shifts in alignment with personal growth and self-acceptance There is something to be said of the fact that change happens when the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change. However, while our stories will undoubtedly include painful periods of grief, disillusionment, anguish and anxiety, the complex journey that is the human experience is made up of so much more than those difficult moments. Joy, elation, curiosity and wonder are also feelings that we may observe needing just as much help to navigate. Sparks of inspiration such as exploring core beliefs, building upon prior self-discovery or learning to create a sense of safety within can also be precursors to seeking therapy. In other words, each person’s journey is their own. Our practice’s story is built around meeting the needs of our clients. Your story is yours to tell. And it is your [courageous] choice to take that vulnerable first step towards finding someone you can begin to build trust with and open up to.
