My therapeutic approach is catered for each client. For those with anxiety disorders, I use evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) to help my clients learn about the intersections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Much of therapy includes learning and trying out new ways of thinking, utilizing coping skills that emphasize regulating your nervous system, and safely exposing yourself to anxiety-provoking things in order to overcome your fears. For clients who have experienced trauma and interpersonal/relational challenges, I use trauma-focused CBT and psychodynamic therapy with an attachment lens. I aim to support my clients in processing their experiences, reclaiming their narratives, and connecting to their values. I want to help my clients gain insight on root causes of distress, while also helping them explore how to engage in interpersonal relationships in healthier ways. My style is warm and collaborative. In session, I try to balance insight-oriented and skills-based approaches. I am active in teaching and helping clients develop new, healthy coping skills, in order to deal with stress better. I integrate feminist and multicultural approaches, and strive to help explore the impacts of oppression, privilege, and societal expectations, on mental health.

I work with individuals, couples, and families through a primarily psychodynamic framework. Through insight-oriented work with a focus on interpersonal relationship dynamics, attachment, and family systems, it is my goal to help the people I work with uncover repressed trauma from childhood and adolescence in order to gain a more nuanced understanding about their unhealthy relationship dynamics, from past and present, in order to live healthier and more fulfilling lives. I enjoy helping my patients develop a deeper sense of self-awareness in order to understand their emotional and interpersonal struggles. There are many different approaches to therapy, and it is my belief that it is best to adapt to the needs of each person I work with. We often learn to understand ourselves, and the actions and behaviors of others, through the lens of our early life experiences. It is my goal to help you disentangle the complex webs that we all form, which may feel insurmountable to conquer alone. I am committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic space where we will explore uncharted areas of your life to make connections between prior experiences and current emotions in order to develop insight and growth. I strive to foster a compassionate healing environment in which I will help you form inner coping resources, so you may develop healthy relationships, gain self-esteem, and find relief from emotional distress. It is my goal to tailor treatment to fit your individual needs. Some of the most rewarding aspects of my work involve being able to assess your strengths, share that information with you, and help you implement those strengths in a positive way. When you are ready to take the next step, please call or email me for a complimentary phone consultation. I look forward to meeting you soon. *I am currently seeing patients for both virtual and in-person appointments.

Hi there! Currently I'm providing telehealth via a secure, user-friendly and HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. I see many clients who struggle with anxiety and stress-management, relationship concerns, life-stage stressors, and self-worth/self-esteem issues. College is often described as "some of the best years of your life" ....by well-intentioned people who likely have not experienced life as a college student in the 21st century. Many of my college-aged clients come to therapy seeking guidance once the juggling act of friends, dating, family, homework, classes, labs, group projects, extracurricular obligations, etc...starts to become overwhelming, and "me-time" a distant memory. While therapy itself certainly can't remove anything from your plate, it can help you to reconfigure and re-prioritize your life in a way that can bring greater peace of mind, and restore a sense of balance. Feel free to reach out and we'll see if this can be a good fit for your needs! Melissa

I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy in a multicultural context. I provide a compassionately insightful and culturally-sensitive space that allows you to attune to your inner wisdom, leading to contentment in personal and professional pursuits. Psychodynamic orientation is based on an insight-oriented approach of becoming aware of unconscious patterns rooted in our past that significantly impact current functioning in relationships, work, and recreation. I incorporate mindfulness meditation or relaxation techniques if the client prefers. My practice is exclusively telehealth-based, and research has shown telehealth to be very useful for treatment. I offer psychotherapy via a video HIPAA-compliant platform that protects your privacy and bars unauthorized access. Telehealth provides convenience for both the provider and client without compromising the quality of treatment. It is exciting to witness the ease of mental health access that telehealth provides. Now, you don't have to limit your therapist search to your local area but can instead extend it all over the state! I hold these qualifications: I have a doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford, and the program is approved by American Psychological Association (APA). I completed an internship in clinical psychology, approved by the APA. I completed a formal Post-Doctoral Fellowship in college counseling. I am licensed as a Psychologist in New York state. Choosing a therapist is an important and deeply personal decision, and my goal is to offer a space where you feel genuinely seen, supported, and understood. I work with individuals who are navigating complex trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationship struggles, worry, or sadness. Many of my clients come to me feeling stuck in cycles they can’t quite name, carrying burdens they’ve held alone for far too long. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and build a path toward relief, clarity, and meaningful change. My approach is collaborative, trauma‑informed, and grounded in curiosity rather than judgment. I draw from evidence‑based modalities including DBT, CBT, & ACT, while tailoring each session to your unique needs and strengths. I incorporate psychoeducation, skills training, and optional between‑session “homework" to help you apply what we discuss in real time. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship stress, or the long‑term impact of trauma, you don’t have to navigate it alone. If you’re curious about whether we might be a good fit, I welcome you to reach out. When you’re ready to feel more connected, grounded, and understood, I’m here to help.

I specialize in Eating disorders and trauma and use the Health at Every Size approach to working with eating disorders as well as recognize that trauma is keeping people from the recovery they seek from this condition. I am trained in EMDR and trauma informed stabilization treatment which is a parts model in working with trauma. I work best with clients who have utilized other types of therapy and feel that it is not working for them and also who have been diagnosed with multiple types of disorders. People that I work best with recognize that experiences from childhood are impacting them currently and want to heal from that impact.

I love working with people to understand their own patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships. All of these patterns have a root cause, and have served you in some way at some time—even if they are now proving to be unhelpful or harmful. In our work together, we will come to better understand the problems you face, develop a plan to make a change, and then put that plan into action. I specialize in working with teens and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, BPD, ADHD, patterns of difficulty regulating emotions, and pervasive isolation/interpersonal conflict. I have extensive experience in behavioral modalities such as CBT and DBT, as well psychodynamic and trauma-focused therapy. My approach balances acceptance and validation of the challenges that may bring you to treatment, with the simultaneous need for change. I will pull from various types of therapy, depending on what is most appropriate for you. Our work together will be collaborative and iterative, while also structured and purposeful. Regardless of your particular reasons for seeking a therapist at this time, I will always prioritize your personal goals, identity and values—some of which may very well evolve over time. I hope to connect soon if you feel we may be a good match!

Drawing upon over a decade of experience in solution-focused, client-centered, EMDR and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy techniques, I seek to serve my clients by creating a goal-orientated, collaborative treatment plan to help you achieve your desired goals, work through past trauma, relationship difficulties, get "unstuck", or work through problem areas. My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. I believe that people are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion. My goal is to facilitate and support your efforts to change so that you recognize your unique strengths. We will explore your current strategies and develop new methods of coping. I favor approaches that address the connection between mental and physical well-being, which include mindfulness, meditation, and breath-work. Depression, anxiety, trauma, and struggles with intimacy and relationships all have a profound impact on how we experience and negotiate our life's work. Together we can identify these roadblocks, work in a targeted way to resolve them, and promote the healthy development and happiness you deserve.
